WLFS Featured on BBC News London for Sustainability Initiatives

West London Film Studios recently featured on BBC News London, highlighting WLFS’s commitment to a greener UK film and television industry.

BBC News visited WLFS’s newly built facilities, focusing on the studio stages and energy infrastructure, and spoke with Frank Khalid, Founder and Director of WLFS, about how film production can reduce its environmental impact.

The documentary explained the scale of energy used in film production, noting that one major film production can use a similar amount of electricity to around 500 homes in a year. This comparison helped show why improving efficiency and investing in sustainable infrastructure is so important.

The feature highlighted several practical measures already in place at WLFS, including:

• A self-sufficient on-site gas station generating electricity for the studios
• Reuse of waste heat for air conditioning and climate control
• Recovered hot water used in day-to-day studio operations
• Rainwater collection, reused in toilets across the site
• Honeybee hives installed in green spaces to support wildlife
• Over 100 trees planted around the studios

Speaking during the programme, Frank Khalid emphasised the need for studios to take responsibility and invest in facilities that support a greener future for British film and television industry.

The BBC News London feature marks an important moment for WLFS, reflecting wider recognition of its efforts to combine large-scale production capability with a strong commitment to sustainability.
