CHELSEA are currently banned from signing players. Once that ban ends, you have to feel that they would have built up a nice little money chest to invest in some new players.
Eden Hazard has obviously fetched a large chunk of cash, a chunk that will always be added to as he earns Chelsea bonuses as he goes.
Of course, the talented youngsters have filled in the gaps and many of them will be pushing to keep Chelsea from signing players in their positions.
But even with that said, Frank Lampard has himself admitted that Chelsea will always look to sign players in certain areas should they feel that it will improve them.
One area that will certainly need improving in the summer is on the wings.
Pedro will leave at the end of his contract this summer, and Willian’s future is also unclear with his contract running out at the same time.
There is one player that they will almost certainly pursue, that is former Manchester City winger Jadon Sancho.
The England international is plying his trade in the Bundesliga for Borussia Dortmund, but he is likely to be the subject of interest from Premier League clubs this summer, and Chelsea will be one of them.
If the Blues secure Champions League football, the signing of Sancho could be very realistic, should the player want to move.If he does, everything points towards him going to Chelsea.
He will be guaranteed regular first team football under a coach that fully trusts young players.
He already has close friends playing at Chelsea in the shape of Tammy Abraham, Callum Hudson-Odoi and others.
But perhaps most crucially, his Father has admitted that Chelsea ‘would be the ideal club’ for his son, according to Chelsea fan and businessman Frank Khalid, who spoke to him recently.
Khalid featured on the Alex Goldberg ‘Byline’ podcast last week and revealed that he had a chat with Sancho’s Father, who is part of his son’s advisory team.
Sancho would be an excellent addition to the Chelsea squad and it is a pursuit that has a realistic feel about it, rather than just another silly season transfer rumour.
There has yet to be any kind of confirmation of interest from Chelsea from any solid sources yet, but it is a link that I expect to see growing as we approach next summer.
The January transfer window is notoriously difficult to do business in, so even if Chelsea’s ban is lifted, there is little chance that a deal for Sancho will be attempted then.
But Chelsea have the money to compete with the big guns for his signature, Sancho loves Chelsea, his Dad has called them an ‘ideal club’ – it all seems set up for him to move to the Blue part of London.
If Chelsea can pull this off it will be seen as a massive coup, and will go a long way to replace the loss of Eden Hazard.
